April 3, 2000 Announcement
Navision Software is pleased to announce Navision Web Shop. Navision Web Shop extends the functionality of Navision Financials to the web, allowing users to publish product catalogs on their web sites and receive orders from their customers directly from their site. Information is passed freely from Navision Financials to the web and back; thus, providing a low maintenance, trouble-free solution.
Navision Web Shop seamlessly interfaces the Navision Financials enterprise business solution with the Microsoft Site Server 3, Commerce Edition allowing customers to set up dynamic, interactive and personal sites directed at specific target groups. Unlike other e-commerce solutions, it is completely integrated with the enterprise business solution thus making the investment in resources minimal.
Product Highlights
Product Catalogs
With Navision Web Shop, the user can set up product catalogs to be viewed on the web. Using the standard "picture" feature within Navision Financials, it is possible to show the products as the web-customer is browsing the catalog. Relevant information such as product descriptions and pricing are taken directly from Navision Financials and shown on the web.
Navision Web Shop automatically updates the Web storefront to reflect changes made in the database such as item prices, item descriptions and associated images. For example, if an item's picture is changed within Navision Financials, the item's picture will automatically change on the Web storefront without making complicated HTML changes. Similarly, if the price or any other information changes, the new information will change on the storefront.
Web Orders
Navision Web Shop seamlessly extends the order entry function of Navision Financials to the Web. This allows web-customers to enter their own orders from the web. These orders are passed directly into the Navision Financials database, without user intervention. The user has the option to transfer web orders into Navision Financials as either credit memos or sales orders.
The user can also specify for each customer whether the web orders need to be approved before entering the system. If the user specifies that a certain customer's orders must be approved, they will receive an automatic e-mail notification whenever the customer makes an order. Upon approval, the web-customer will receive an automatic e-mail order confirmation. Alternatively, the approval process can be by-passed for established customers.
When new web-customers place orders, Navision Financials automatically sets up and maintains the new customer detail. This eliminates the need for manual re-entry of customer information.
Personalized Site
Navision Web Shop allows the user to define several electronic product catalogs each aimed at a specific customer type. Each catalog could have a unique structure complete with its own images. This allows the user to tailor a site toward the needs of specific customers.
Additionally, using the standard functionality of Navision Financials, each customer has the ability to browse the product catalog in their own language, using the currency of their choice.
Customer Self-Service
Navision Web Shop allows web-customers to view the detail of their account. For example, customers can view credit memos and invoices. They can also check the shipping status of their orders.
Safe and Secure Transaction Processing
Navision Web Shop offers secure and convenient Internet-based payment for consumers. Since there currently is no single standard e-commerce payment solution, implementation of any one of the leading transaction security solutions is allowed. Navision Web Shop integrates with Microsoft technology to ensure support for secured access and authentication.
Microsoft Transaction Server is used, ensuring transaction integrity. It supports multiple payment methods and multiple secure payment protocols including SSL and Secure Electronic Transaction (SET). SET is a standard driven by a number of industry leaders including VISA and MasterCard. It is a three-way protocol and manages the interfacing of consumer, merchant and financial institution in a single message.
Customizable
Users can enhance the look and feel of their sites with multimedia and interactive programs (applets) that will give the shop the personal touch. They can choose from existing plug-ins that will customize the way their system does business, for example, the way credit-card transactions are processed.
